João Bernardo Castigo Massane, 37 years old, has been a ranger for 18 years in the Bazaruto Archipelago national park, where he currently holds the position of Deputy Head of Patrolling, and is in charge of the Park’s transport.

João has been prominent in blocking the wave of illegal nocturnal fishing, by neutralising and detaining all the fishermen involved (18) and seizing the boats (3) used in illegal fishing operations As a result of this work, today there is greater knowledge of the conservation law, and respect for the PNAB management plan.

João shows passion, dedication, professionalism and courage in all the tasks given to him, as well as an ease in cultivating good relations with partners and institutions relevant to his work.
